Postal Union hopes to use new delivery project early next year

Members of the quality steering committee of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) expressed confidence that the radio frequency identification project (RFID), aimed at improving the quality of postal delivery, would be successfully implemented in several countries across the world, most probably by early next year.

Experts, associating with the UPU’s initiative, are currently in Doha as part of the global monitoring system’s (GMS) interim working group’s third meeting in the city. The meeting will conclude tomorrow.

As part of the project, meetings are scheduled to be held also in Washington, Rio De Janerio, Lisbon, Botswana, Helsinki, and Japan. Some of the meetings have already been completed.

He said the core group had come out with some effective solutions which he said could be beneficial to all UPU members, in particular those in the developing world.
Jan Sertons (TNT, The Netherlands), Kai Perasalo (Itella, Finland), Antonio Caeiro, (UPU, Portugal) and Sakae Kamibayashi (Japan Post Service) are among the experts attending the meeting.

TNT captures 'can do' mentality in new strap line

TNT launched it new global strap line ‘sure we can’ capturing its ‘can do’-mentality. Furthermore, TNT launched its new Express and Group websites which are the first touch points that will carry the new strap line. Over the next several months TNT will start to apply ‘sure we can’ to all its vehicles, such as the trucks and planes, as well as to communication materials and campaigns.
TNT website has also been given a complete makeover including both the Group site as well as the Express country sites. These sites have all been updated to improve the intuitiveness, relevance and accessibility for visitors and to refresh the look and branding in line with TNT’s new ‘sure we can’ strap line.
For all of the sites an innovative site structure was implemented which is expected to increase the accessibility and usability substantially. The enhanced navigation and content is also expected to deliver an improved customer experience and further encourage customers to use its full range of convenient business tools including tracking and self service shipping tools such as myTNT. Several new applications were added to TNT’s Group site such as videos featuring Peter Bakker explaining topics such as ‘sure we can’, TNT’s strategy and Planet Me. The search functionality of the TNT websites has improved by means of advanced search functionalities and an improved general archive. The renewed websites aim to be best in class in terms of accessibility and usability and to stay fully web standards compliant.

Gavin Macrae appointed Director of Market Development (UK)

Gavin Macrae has been appointed Director of Market Development at Postcomm, the postal services regulator. He will report to the newly appointed Chief Executive, Tim Brown.

Gavin joins us from Royal Mail Letters where he was Director of Product Marketing. He has more than 22 years experience of working in a variety of operational and commercial roles within Royal Mail Group, including leading on new product development and innovation.

Mr Macrae joins Postcomm on 20 October 2008.

Altus repositioning project for TNT Post (UK)

Altus, the postal estate management company, has announced the completion of a major project on behalf of TNT Post’s regional division in Scotland.

Glasgow-based Altus conducted an independent analysis of the Scottish postal market in order to help shape TNT Post’s business structure for the region and enable them to drive higher mail volumes for the company’s Coatbridge-based division.

Charles Neilson, Group Commercial Director of TNT Post, said: “Our Scottish operation has grown significantly in the past year and, as with all businesses, you need to make sure you’re all moving in the same direction.
