DHL express launches global online tracking tool

DH announced the launch of Global ProView, a tool that enables customers of DHL’s Time Definite International (TDI) Express services to track all their shipments simultaneously with one seamless online-application. Global ProView is accessible from any point on the internet and offers a complete and automatically updated overview of a customer’s global shipments.

DHL first introduced ProView to the U.S. market in 2006 and has been met with high adoption rates as U.S. customers can make the most efficient use of their time by automatically monitoring and communicating valuable shipment information in real-time. Following the successful users’ acceptance test in the U.S. and other regions, Global ProView will now be rolled out in most key markets by the end of the year.

Designed to suit the needs of customers with a large number of TDI shipments, ProView can help them save significant time. Instead of following individual shipments through waybills or reference numbers, Global ProView enables customers to monitor all shipments with their account number, which is password and PIN protected for security. Once registered, customers can search, filter and download the shipment information they require with just a few clicks. Shipments can also be grouped into categories based on their current tracking status.

Customers can configure the application to send real-time notifications via SMS text message or e-mail alert whenever a shipment is delivered, is picked up or hits a snag in the delivery chain, such as if a “clearance delay” occurs. They can also choose when, how and which notifications are sent and who receives them – whether that customer is the sender, receiver or third-party payer.

The new system, fully operative in the Barajas ISO

The new, automatic parcel sorting system installed by Correos in its Barajas International Sorting Office (ISO), in Madrid, is already fully operative. With this new technological equipment, the public postal entity reinforces and modernises its international parcel service, enabling it to offer new added-values and greater service quality to customers and the recipients of these international deliveries.
Correos has invested 1.2 million euros in this automatic sorting system, turnkey supplied and installed by Vanderlande Industries España S.A., the firm awarded the contract, who will also be responsible for the system’s maintenance for five years.
The commissioning of this automatic sorting equipment increases the operational capacity of this mail office in Barajas, and cuts the time necessary for managing parcel sorting, transport and distributions. Furthermore, it allows for all the information on each of the deliveries on their journey through the postal chain to be recorded.
Thanks to the automatic recording of the information, the public postal operator guarantees 100% traceability of mail. The parcel senders and recipients can know at what point in the postal circuit their mail is at each given moment, and any possible incidents in the delivery: attempts, notices, final delivery date and delivery recipient.
This initiative is in line with the postal company’s actions directed at modernising, automating and extending its logistics, distribution and customer-service centre network. All of this is designed to offer citizens and businesses more functional installations equipped with technological resources and guaranteeing the highest quality and most efficient and accessible postal service.

NetDespatch web portal to revolutionise Manx parcel deliveriesDocument Actions

The Isle of Man’s distribution company, Manxx Independent Carriers, is rolling out an innovative system for tracking parcels and freight using a new international ‘databank’ called PODXchange. Developed by NetDespatch, PODXchange is a web portal for proof of delivery (POD).

Manx drivers are being equipped with special mobile devices incorporating barcode scanners and a touchsceen. When deliveries are made and signed for, details of the shipment held in the barcode can be transmitted live to the web portal along with the captured electronic signature. Scan and POD data as well as signatures is then transformed into the appropriate carrier format and transmitted to Manx’s customers that include most major UK parcel carriers.

The portal accepts data from any POD system – for any parcel – and then makes it available via the Internet to any carrier. Manx is already delivering on behalf of all the major parcel carriers including Fedex, UPS, DPD, Citylink, Parcelnet and Amtrak. Using one device, Manx can now provide a live signature POD to any of these companies. The intelligent system recognises the carrier from the barcode on the parcel ensuring that each carrier only retrieves data on their own parcels.

First used in the Highlands of Scotland for parcel deliveries handled by AJG, the system is being implemented by Manx so that is can be used for all types of deliveries. “We travelled to Inverness to see the first PODXchange implementation in action with courier firm AJG parcels. It was immediately evident that it had real potential and we realised we could develop the first true multi-service POD solution giving our customers live updates on anything we delivered whether a parcel, pallet, an item of plant or a fresh food delivery,” says Coleman.
