Korea Post Builds Mobile Mail Service System

Korea Post (KP), the postal service arm of the Ministry of Information and Communication, said yesterday it will build a mobile mail service system by 2004 on a gradual basis. Under the plan, the government will supply personal digital assistants for around 14,000 mailpersons over the next three years,
said KP official Kwon Moon-hong. The government’s decision reflected growing fears about the proliferation of the Internet.

Siemens relaunches Datatrak system

IEMENS DATATRAK, ThE VEHICLE position monitoring company, relaunched itself last week with
the promise of new success in the truck sector and a blistering attack on its ubiquitous rival system, GPS.
Datatrak, a unique, self-contained system that uses its own low-frequency radio masts, was developed by Securicor in the 1980s to help protect its cash transport vehicles.
Siemens, the German technology and communications giant, bought the business last
year to move into the positioning market and believes that it can make much more of the
system than Securicor did here and abroad.
