Plans for GCC freight forwarding company outlined ahead of UPU Strategy Conference

Plans for the development of a unified GCC express mail and freight forwarding company, which will assimilate key individual players from the region, were outlined today at a media briefing for the Universal Postal Union Strategy Conference which is being hosted by Emirates Post in Dubai for the first time.

Speaking at the pre-event briefing for the conference, which opens today (14th November) till 16th November with more than 700 delegates from across the globe, HE Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Communications and Chairman of Emirates Post, said that plans for the creation of a unified entity, Gulf Express, are at an advanced stage.

‘GCC countries have been combining efforts to unify services by producing new products for express mail and by seeking to establish a GCC freight forwarding company. We hope to see something materialise in the near future,’ he said.

UPU Strategy Conference

Universal Postal Union’s Strategy Conference will take place in Dubai from 14 to 16 November 2006. For the first time, the conference will take place outside Switzerland. It will be hosted by the Government of the UAE and Emirates Post. Around 1,000 delegates from more than 130 member countries will participate in the event that will be held against the background of continuous change in the communication sector.
