Registered mail to carry barcodes instead of stamps

Emirates Post has announced that registered mail will carry barcode instead of postage stamps, starting from September 1, to automate and speed up registered mail. During a one-month trial period, customers will have the option of using stamps or barcode, provided they pay extra for the stamps. However, from October 1, barcodes will be compulsory on all registered mail. “The barcoding of local and international registered mail is another step towards automation and upgrading of postal services,” said Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post.

DHL reports 40% rise in UAE shipments

Express logistics provider DHL says its UAE shipments are up by 40 per cent and has responded by opening four new service points in the country.

The new service points are located at Deira and Sharjah City Centre, Mall of the Emirates and Dragon Mart and are additional to the 21 existing sites in the UAE. DHL’s UAE general manager, David Wild: “Our new service points ensure customers can deal with their shipments while they shop. ”

He added: “We are witnessing huge growth in the number of shipments originating from our service points, with figures up 40 per cent year-on-year.

TNT Express wins VOLVO Dubai Contract

TNT Express – the world’s leading B2B express delivery company – has unveiled a two-year contract with Volvo for transportation services from the automobile giant’s newly-built Regional Parts Distribution Centre (RPDC) in Dubai.

The distribution centre makes spare parts available to dealers of Volvo trucks, Mack trucks, Renault trucks, Volvo Construction Equipment and Volvo buses in 17 countries throughout the Middle East and Africa.

The link-up will see TNT responsible for transporting more than 1.1 million kilograms of spare parts annually from the Volvo RPDC, of which 90% will be moved through the company’s strategic Middle East Road Network (MERN).

“Key reasons for TNT’s success are its ability to meet and exceed Volvo’s transit time requirements and in offering competitive rates in the high volume trade lanes across the region,” said Darryl Regan, Regional Director for India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA).

Emirates Post engaged in Dh190m expansion plans

DUBAI — Emirates Post is engaged in the construction of new post office buildings and customised buildings worth more than Dh190 million for its expanding business activities in the UAE. The new post offices with modern design and facilities will help Emirates Post use technology more efficiently to adopt global best practices in postal operations, said a top official of Emirates Post.

Emirates Post has begun work on a Dh100 million postal operations hub next to the existing mail sorting centre at Ramoul, adjacent to the Dubai International Airport. The building, scheduled for completion in June 2007, will house a highly advanced mail sorting facility, direct marketing, postal training and courier operations. The tallest structure currently being developed by Emirates Post is the Al Wahda Post Office Project in Sharjah. The Dh22 million project, due for completion by June 2007, has 10 floors.
