Emirates Post in talks with Libya Post for enhanced cooperation in postal services

A team of Emirates Post led by the Director General, Mr. Abdullah Al Daboos, recently visited Tripoli to enhance postal cooperation between Libya and the UAE.The Libyan side was represented by Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Albu Aishi, Director General, Postal Affairs, General Corporation for Posts & Telecommunications, Dr. Sami Al Bakbak, member, Telecommunications Committee, Mr. Mohammed Omar Dakheel, Director Postal Services and Mr. Hadi Al Soodi, Director, Postal Financial Services. The Emirates Post delegation included Mr. Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General, Operations, and Mr. Khalid Shahdoor, Assistant Director General, Information Technology. Following the talks, the Libyan officials expressed a keen interest in exploring the possibility of signing an agreement to route mail through Emirates Post’s Dubai Mail Transit Hub located at Dubai International Airport. Both sides agreed to pursue steps to increase the movement of express mail between the two countries and expressed satisfaction over the smooth delivery of express mail in the past, with no record of missing or undelivered mail.

ARAMEX to build chain of logistics hubs as part of major regional development

World Mail, Express & Air Cargo Expo Middle East & Africa to be held in Dubai

Dubai will re-confirm its position as a key global trader in March by hosting The World Mail, Express & Air Cargo Expo Middle East & Africa, the first conference led exhibition of its kind to be staged in the region. Leading global organisations such as Deutsche Post, DHL, FedEx, Emirates Post and Emirates SkyCargo will address major postal, express and air freight issues. A major topic to be covered includes the liberalisation of the postal sector, a mammoth task for an industry which last year delivered 204 billion pieces of mail globally and employs six million people in India alone. Emirates Post may sell 40percent stake

The UAE will likely sell 40 per cent of its stake in Emirates Post Corporation by year-end, a company official said.

The organisation has already initiated discussions with the authorities regarding the partial sale of the government’s stake, said Director-General Abdullah Al Daboos. Emirates Post, which is capitalised at Dh100 million, has announced a record net profit of Dh123 million for 2004, an increase of 20 per cent over the previous year.

The company aims to improve its profit by another 12 per cent this year, said Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Communications and Chairman of Emirates Post.

“There is currently a line-up of postal services Egypt, Oman, Syria, etc for which Emirates Post is planning to help establish state-of-the-art IT systems,” said Al Daboos.

DHL launches upgraded online shipping

The web shipping service was set up to enable customers to organise their shipping needs online to save time and eliminate stress. The service is now on its third version and offers a new look and feel together with greatly improved navigation and clearer user instructions.

“Users can now more easily and quickly complete all the steps to prepare shipments and book pick ups,” said David Wild, General Manager, DHL UAE.

DHL UAE, the Emirates’ leading express and logistics provider, has launched a new version of its on-line shipping service following recommendations from an external competitive and customer study.

The web shipping service is an effective way to; schedule pick-ups, prepare and print airway bills, complete customs paperwork, determine which shipments are customs declarable and track shipments.
