Consignia seeks to reverse trend

Despite an avalanche of adverse publicity Consignia has enjoyed some success by attracting a number of big-name retailers to its expanding logistics solutions division. From its warehouse in Swindon, Wiltshire, the company has drawn the likes of JJBSports, Homebase, mail order stationerycompany Viking and Kingfisher’s ULY operation, Screwfix, to use its ‘Deliver & Build’ service. But more important to the company’sfuture success — to help it offset its broader problems– is its fledgling’ reverse logistics’service. It has already signed up a major high street entertainment retailer, as well as Safeway to use the service. It is also close to bringing on board a number of major book retailers.

Jersey Postal law delivers free-market message

Jersey’s mail deliveries are on the road to change from this week as the new draft Postal Services Law is published for consultation. The proposals set down by the Industries Committee seek to abolish the exclusive privilege of the States, opening up the market to competition. Power to grant licences will be given to the Island’s independent regulator, the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA).

Postal Strike would be 'catastrophic'

Consignia’s interim chair-man warned yesterday that it would be “catastrophic” for the embattled re-named Post Office if its employees were to strike. “There is nobody in this organisation who really wants to strike, because everyone understands how catastrophic it would be for the company,” Allan Leighton said.

Nine out of ten first class letters arrive next day says Royal Mail

More than nine out of ten First Class letters are arriving the day after posting for the second three months in succession. Royal Mail is delivering a substantially better performance compared to a year ago but still has work to do in under-performing parts of the country if the year end target of 92.1% is to be met, Consignia said today. The latest quality of service report covering the final three months of 2001 showed that 90.4% of First Class letters arrived the day after posting. This was a 0.3 percentage point below the quarterly performance for July to September – but it is much better than the 87.0% result in the October to December period in 2000.
