Consignia — formerly the Post Office — has confirmed the appointment of Allan Leighton as interim chairman. He takes over from Neville Bain, whose contract expired at the end of last year and his tenure will last three to four months until the Department of Trade & Industry find a successor.

“We are looking at growth of 15-20% annually over the next three years,” said chief executive Andrew Bernard, who led the buyout. “We see that as realistic in 2002. Tt means increasing market share, but it has to be managed effectively.”
Allan Leighton, the former chief executive of Asda, is expected today to be named interim chairman of Consignia – formerly the Post Office – with a mandate to streamline its urban network and fight increasing competition in mail delivery.
