UK Royal Mail chief executive admits mistakes

Adam Crozier, the Royal Mail chief executive, yesterday insisted that management attempts to shake up the Post Office had not “destroyed” it but admitted they had led to some difficulties. The former Football Association boss was forced to defend the organisation as it came under fire from MPs of all parties at a Commons trade and industry select committee meeting. CWU general secretary Billy Hayes told MPs low wages, poor working conditions and the physical demands of carrying extra mail after the introduction of the single delivery had led to low morale among staff. Hayes’ deputy, David Ward, said the Royal mail renewal programme was ‘focusing on finances’ and not looking at service improvements.
