Chilean express delivery market to grow 14 percent in 2004

The Chilean express delivery market is expected to grow by 14 percent in terms of volume in 2004 helped by the US and Chilean economic recoveries and the recently signed free trade deals, according to forecast by Juan Carlos Aravena, sales director of UPS Chile, the Chilean subsidiary of UPS, the US express delivery company. Mr. Aravena estimates the domestic express delivery market at about USD50mil (between 5,000 and 6,000 parcels per day).

UPS Japan to begin direct shipping service to U.S.

UPS Japan Co have announced that it will launch a small-lot direct maritime shipping service to the U.S. on July 1.

The company will jointly implement the Trade Direct Ocean service with a joint venture between United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) and Suzuyo & Co.

UPS files new EU complaints over Deutsche Post practices

European Union regulators recently received two more complaints from United Parcel Services Inc against Deutsche Post World Net AG for the alleged hoarding of state funds and monopoly. The filing urges outgoing antitrust head Mario Monti to launch formal inquiries on Deutsche Post, but EU officials have not begun any official investigations to date.
