UPS has announced it will begin deploying wireless technologies, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, to package facilities and drivers in Europe to ensure customers continue to have the most up-to-the-minute tracking information available at all times. Landmark US-China air pact to boost international trade

FedEx, UPS and American Airlines have welcomed the bilateral aviation agreement between the US and China, which extends through 2010, and provides 111 new weekly US-China flights for US cargo airlines. The US DoT will be responsible for allocating the new flights, the first of which will be available in August. The new agreement contains a key provision that allows US cargo carriers to establish hubs in China once specific criteria are met. The agreement also includes provisions for a 500% increase in cargo capacity between the two countries and underscores the increasing globalisation of commerce and benefits of bilateral trade.

IPA, UPS issue statement on move to mediation

UPS and the Independent Pilots Association (IPA), which represents the approximately 2,500 pilots who fly for UPS, announce the following:

The company and union have been in direct negotiations for a new pilot labor agreement since October 2002. Although the parties have utilized their best efforts over the past 22 months, no agreement has yet been reached in the contract areas of scheduling, compensation, pension, scope and benefits.

At this time, the parties believe the next logical step in reaching an agreement is to jointly request the mediation services of the National Mediation Board.
