FedEx Kinko's continues to expand footprint

In early August, FedEx Kinko’s made two major announcements. First, the company announced an aggressive expansion plan to open 300 new office and print centers in the United States throughout fiscal 2008. The company also will redesign 110 existing centers and introduce 20 new locations internationally. A few days later, FedEx Kinko’s announced plans to open five office and print centers in the McCormick Place convention center and historic Navy Pier in Chicago. So when you show up at Graph Expo in September, although the new FedEx Kinko’s sites will not have been formally launched (scheduled for later in September), they will reflect the FedEx Kinko’s brand.

Supply Chain Consulting launches CarbonView technology for green supply chains

Supply Chain Consulting has announced the US launch of CarbonView, a solution that helps companies to evaluate and implement pragmatic green strategies while simultaneously improving their business performance.

The new solution will be featured later this month at eyefortransport’s upcoming 3rd Annual Green Transportation & Logistics Summit in San Francisco on September 25-27.

“Industry leaders like DuPont, IBM, 3M and Wal-Mart are the early adopters of sound environmental strategies, and now every socially responsible company should have a carbon management strategy,” said John Nadvornik, director of product marketing & strategy for Supply Chain Consulting. “The proactive enterprises that begin laying a foundation for a green supply chain now will leapfrog their competition.”

“Most organisations see the value of implementing green supply chains, but they struggle to get started and fail to make substantial progress,” continued Nadvornik. “That’s why we created the Carbon Management Model, a five-step process for implementing an enterprise-wide carbon management strategy and our corresponding CarbonView platform that provides the technology layer needed to support each phase.”

USPS pays customers to use its kiosks

The U.S. Postal Service wants its customers to handle their own postage — and is offering cash prizes to those who do.

At post offices nationwide, including three in Greensboro, customers will get a chance at USD 250 daily cash prizes and a grand prize of USD 10,000 when they use the Automatic Postal Center kiosks rather than standing in line to be served.

“It’s a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week postal clerk, basically,” said Carl Walton, Greensboro spokesman for the postal service. “Most people don’t realize that 70-80 percent of the transactions they do at the window could be done at these kiosks faster.”

Walton said the service hopes the contest — open to anyone with an Automatic Postal Center receipt — will drive more people to try the kiosks and make it a habit.
