FedEx confident on timing of A380 delivery

FedEx has delivered a vote of confidence in Airbus’s troubled A380 superjumbo, saying it remains committed to the aircraft and expects its order to be completed on schedule.

Fred Smith, chairman and chief executive, said, while the latest delays to the A380 were “a source of concern”, FedEx had been assured its 10 aircraft would not be affected. “We’re confident,” he told the FT. “They have told us that ours are going to arrive on time.”

The comments followed Airbus’s warning that deliveries of the A380 passenger jet would be delayed by an additional six or seven months, prompting demands for compensation by airlines and causing at least one customer to rethink its order.

United Parcel Service, US Postal Service ink pact

United Parcel Service Inc. and the US Postal Service reached agreement on a deal that will put mail on planes of the package-delivery company and could improve the post office’s reliability. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter said. Terms of the arrangement call for UPS to begin flying mail for the Postal Service on Saturday, in what could generate revenue of more than USD100 million a year for UPS, the report said.

US Teamsters win major agreement at UPS Freight

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa announced today that the union has won a card-check agreement at UPS Freight, providing a major boost to the Teamsters’ organizing efforts at the former Overnite Transportation. Union leaders have been pursuing with UPS the negotiation of an organizing agreement since UPS bought Overnite last year.

UPS awarded contract to fly US mail

UPS today announced it had been awarded a three-year contract by the US Postal Service (USPS) to provide domestic air transportation of primarily First Class and Priority Mail.

Under the agreement, UPS initially will provide airlift of First Class and Priority Mail volume each week to and from 98 cities.

The contract, which includes an option for one two-year extension, expands an existing relationship between UPS and the USPS under which the company provides airlift for mail transportation between 16 cities. The contract will take effect on July 1.

Myanmar international express mail services to expand to 30 more countries

The state-run Myanmar International Express Mail Services (EMS) will expand its services to 30 more countries starting July 1, the local Weekly Eleven News reported Tuesday.

The Myanmar EMS International under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs is currently rendering services to 32 countries in Asia and North America.

The expansion would bring the total number of countries to where the EMS International is accessible to 62.
