Teamsters vows to unionize DHL

The Teamsters union says it is stepping up its campaign to organize workers at DHL and at its package services provider, ABX Air. Teamsters President James Hoffa led a rally with 300 ABX and DHL employees at the carrier’s main Wilmington, Ohio, hub late last week and pledged to ramp up efforts to organize ABX’s 1,200 aircraft mechanics and 5,000 workers at the largest hub in the DHL network. The union said it already represents about 12,000 DHL-related workers, including drivers in the DHL network of independent cartage carriers. “The workers organizing as Teamsters in Wilmington is the next logical step,” the union said.

FedEx Corp. Board declares quarterly dividend and announces Board changes

The Board of Directors of FedEx Corporation today declared a quarterly cash dividend of USD0.09 per share on FedEx Corporation common stock, an increase of USD0.01 per share over the previous dividend payment. The dividend is payable July 3, 2006 to stockholders of record at the close of business on June 12, 2006. FedEx Corporation today also announced that Daniel J. Sullivan, President and Chief Executive Officer of FedEx Ground, will retire effective January 5, 2007. Sullivan, 60, has led the company’s FedEx Ground operating unit and will be succeeded by FedEx Express Executive Vice President David F. Rebholz, 53.

FedEx to Acquire Watkins Motor Lines

FedEx Corporation today announced an agreement to acquire the less-than-truckload (LTL) operations of Watkins Motor Lines and certain affiliates for USD780 million, payable in cash. Heavyweight freight customers will benefit from the additional choice that this new, reliable and cost-effective solution will add to the FedEx Freight portfolio of services. Watkins Motor Lines, a privately held company headquartered in Lakeland, Fla., is a leading provider of long-haul LTL services. With over USD1 billion in annual revenue, Watkins will be rebranded FedEx National LTL and operate as a separate network within the FedEx Freight segment. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of fiscal 2007 and is subject to customary conditions, including government approvals. The acquisition is not expected to have a material effect on the fiscal 2007 financial results of FedEx.
