TNT Singapore launches Clinical Express exclusive service into US

TNT Express Singapore has launched a next-day, door-to-door delivery service of diagnostic samples and clinical supplies for central laboratories in Asia to the USA. By leveraging on TNT’s new partnership with US company AirNet Systems, TNT Express not only provides the best-in-class transit times, but also a range of value-added services such as certified packaging and fulfilment of the frozen consignment. This is an additional development of “Clinical Express Exclusive” that was launched globally last year. Clinical trial shipments from Asia to the US are set to double by 2006 and are seen as a key area of growth for clinical trial logistics. Currently, Asia-US shipments account for about 10% of the industry estimated to be worth USD30 million a year – half of which originate in Singapore.

UPS tracking progress on business sustainability goals

UPS today reinforced its ongoing commitment to balancing economic, social and environmental objectives by releasing the company’s third annual Corporate Sustainability Report. The report demonstrates UPS is moving forward on a number of important goals, including increasing fuel efficiency, lowering aircraft emissions and reducing employee injury rates. Committee approves Collins-Carper postal reform legislation

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today approved postal reform legislation introduced by Senators Susan Collins and Tom Carper. The Collins-Carper Postal Accountability And Enhancement Act represents the first major overhaul of the USPS since 1970. Their legislation will strengthen the USPS, which is the linchpin of a USD900 billion mailing industry that employs more than 9 million people nationwide. Senator Collins is the Chairman and Senator Carper is a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over the USPS. The Committee today approved the postal reform legislation by a vote of 15 to 1. It must now be considered by the Senate.

USPS Financials, revenue and mail volume up

For the USPS’s fiscal 2005 year to date (Oct. 1, 2004, through May 31, 2005), total revenue was USD47.3 billion, which was USD1.1 billion better than planned budget. Total expenses of USD45.5 billion was USD221.4 million under plan. There was also good news on the volume front. Total year-to-date mail volume was up 3.0%. Broken down by class, First-Class volume was up 0.2%, Standard Mail was up 6.1%, Priority Mail was up 4.2%, Express Mail was up 1.6%, Periodicals was up 0.1%, Package Services was up 2.2%, and International was down 0.4%.
