Bob Stoffel named to lead all of UPS’s supply chain businesses

Bob Stoffel, who helped lead the development of UPS’s global supply chain capabilities, has been promoted to the company’s Management Committee to succeed the retiring Joe Pyne as senior vice president for the Supply Chain Group. Stoffel, 48, currently is the head of UPS Supply Chain Solutions, the largest of the four business units that comprise the Supply Chain Group of UPS’s non-package companies. He oversaw the integration of 16 acquired companies that were added in recent years to UPS Supply Chain Solutions, and also led the unit to profitability.

DHL and Lufthansa Cargo launch 5 new international routes

DHL and Lufthansa Cargo have begun operations on five new international routes; and DHL has increased capacity on its Hong Kong-Taipei service.

The new international routes, operated by Lufthansa Cargo MD11 freighters, will offer more intercontinental flights between Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the US, with faster transit times.

House, Senate leaders urged to make US postal reform a priority

Despite strong bipartisan support for overhauling the Postal Service, congressional leaders are not making legislation enough of a priority, House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said Monday. He said leaders in the House and Senate are “unenthusiastic” about moving a bill. “They’re saying, ‘Yeah, if the committee reports out a bill, we’ll try to take it up,'” Davis told a meeting of the National Association of Postal Supervisors. That attitude is at odds with “the strong support, by both Republicans and Democrats, in both the House and the Senate [government operations committees] to pass reform this year,” Davis said.
