TNT Logistics North America to operate distribution centres for Michelin in United States and Canada

Michelin North America has signed a six-year, multi-million dollar agreement with TNT Logistics North America under which TNT will operate Michelin’s network of tire distribution centers in the United States and Canada. The agreement builds on a successful relationship that began in 1995 with TNT Logistics delivering value-added logistics services to Michelin Group’s operations in the United Kingdom.
TNT is expected to begin operation during the week of Aug. 5, 2002, of Michelin North America’s network of approximately 7-million sq. ft. of distribution centers in 18 locations in the United States and Canada. Michelin North America’s distribution in Mexico is already outsourced to different providers.

US Postal Service approves NetStamps

The US Postal Service has approved a system that allows PC users to print out sheets of postage stamps.
The new system – called NetStamps – will enable subscribers to print out 25 stamps at a time on special watermarked paper.

Ex-Postal Execs Form Latin American Delivery Company

Two former U.S. Postal Service executives have started an unnamed company offering delivery services in major cities in Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
John Kelly, former president/CEO of the USPS’ former expedited and package services division, is president of the new company. James Grubiak, former USPS vice president, international business, is vice president of sales and marketing. The company likely will be named SkyPost.
LanChile, which is an investor in the company and is Chile’s largest passenger and air cargo carrier, is handling air transportation. Sky Net Worldwide Express, LanChile’s international distribution and logistics division, is offering a hand-delivery network in the region and eventually will provide fulfillment and call center operations for the company.

A memorandum on mutual understanding is signed between the Kyrgyz Government and World Post Union

Yesterday a memorandum on mutual understanding between the Kyrgyz Government and the World Post Union is signed in Bishkek. Director general of the International Bureau of the World Post Union Thomas Edward Levy and deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Minister of Transport and Communications Kubanychbek Jumaliev are signed the memorandum. The memorandum considers the cooperation of the Kyrgyz Government and World Post Union in the sphere of modernization, development of post communications of Kyrgyzstan. In particular, the WPU undertakes to render assistance in issues of preparing projects and searching foreign investments for their implementation and for development of post links of Kyrgyzstan. According to K. Jumaliev, the required sum of investments for modernization of the post makes about 3 million US Dollars.
