USPS Starts Online Test of Business Service Network

The U.S. Postal Service has begun a test with six large mailers that will allow online access to its Business Service Network, which offers personalized service and help with unique mailing needs.

Previously, mailers had to go to postal locations to use the service.

USPS to set up health funds

The Postal Service intends to use $10 billion in retirement fund overpayments to set up a health benefit account for its more than 800,000 employees, the Postal Service’s chief financial officer said.

Richard Strasser said the money would lay the foundation for a health benefit retirement program estimated to cost more than $40 billion.

US Postal Service to seek rate hikes in '04

The U.S. Postal Service plans to request a postage rate increase of at least 10 percent in October 2004. The Federal Times reported Wednesday that Deputy Postmaster General John Nolan told an audience Tuesday at the National Postal Forum in Kansas City that the Postal Service will apply for the rate increase, which likely would take effect a year later in October 2005.
