TNT Post lost remailing proceedings

The Federal Court of Justice ruled in favour of Deutsche Post in remailing proceedings agiant TNT Post (TPG) in The Netherlands.

‘The proceedings related to a German credit card company, which had the letters and account statements that were intended for its German customers printed in The Netherlands. The Dutch post then handed the finished letters over to Deutsche Post for delivery, which meant that the cost‑intensive part of the mail dispatch process ‑ conveyance, sorting and delivery ‑ was Deutsche Post’s responsibility.

However, all that the latter received by way of compensation was the terminal dues for incoming international mail, which are lower than the German domestic postage rate.

Courier Companies Face the Squeeze

Many companies fear the new rules are going to put smaller companies out of business

Deutsche Post to review StampIT pricing

The new thinking seems to be based on the anaemic customer enrollment StampIT has gotten although Deutsche Post claims it’s on the right track.

A furore erupted last week when the regulator proposed a three-year price freeze. But Graham Corbett, Postcomm chairman, said its consultation document had deliberately been pitched “left of centre” to force Consignia to justify its position that the controls would lead to a loss.

Postal regulator wants couriers to register

The African postal regulator has released draft regulations compelling all operators in the postal sector, including courier companies, to register, while reenforcing a cap on price increases for the SA Post Office. The regulations, which emanate from the 1998 Postal Services Act, will help enforce the SA Post Office’s monopoly over all postal items weighing less than 1kg, which has long been flouted by other operators. An inspectorate is to be established to ensure the monopoly is adhered to and fines administered.
