Ceska posta won't be sold in current govt's term

The current government will not sell postal services operator Ceska posta into private hands in its term of office, Minister without Portfolio Vladimir Mlynar told reporters today.

As of January, Ceska posta will fall under the newly established Ministry for Information Technology to be led by Mlynar.

Stamp prices expected to rise by one penny

Postcomm, the mail regulator, is expected to allow the price of first and second-class stamps to rise by a penny after proposals are published today. The regulator, which sets the price of stamps and monitors delivery performance, is likely to suggest that first-class postage will rise to 28p, while second-class will rise to 20p.

Consignia to Use Online Auctions

“Consignia plans to use online auctions for half of its GBP 1.5bn annual purchasing budget. The former Post Office’s decision marks one of the largest commitments to the ecommerce technology yet seen in the UK. The company says auctions could result in annual savings of 10 per cent – some GBP 75m. Consignia is initially using forward and reverse auctions on a limited basis, as an extension to an online purchasing system running on SAP software that it deployed 18 months ago. It is to conduct trials worth GBP 120m between now and March to decide whether to continue with the ‘pay-as-you-go’ service, or to buy its own in-house capability.

Watchdog ties postal price rise to better service

First and second-class stamps will cost a penny more from April 2003 if proposals by the post office regulator are accepted by Consignia, the mail operator.

Postcomm has put forward proposals for consultation under which postal price rises would be limited and Consignia would be required to deliver better services.
