DHL banks on IT

Complementing its two other global information service centres located around the globe, DHL Worldwide Express’ Asia-Pacific Information Services (APIS) new four-storey facility, located in Cyberjaya, will offer the development and delivery of world-class information services and solutions to DHL’s worldwide operations. The RM200 million facility is part of the total RM1 billion DHL has to date invested in its operations in Malaysia.

USPS Plans Move Update Penalties

The U.S. Postal Service may begin charging penalties in November to First-Class mailers who do not comply with the agency’s Move Update rules, the postal service said last week.
Move Update, which began in 1997, is designed to reduce undelivered-as-addressed mail, which reportedly costs the postal service $1.8 billion a year. Mailers using automation or presort rates are required to update addresses every 180 days with a USPS-approved method such as the Address Change Service, National Change of Address or FastForward.

Stamps set to go up but Mail faces tougher targets

Stamp prices should rise by a penny from next spring, the postal regulator is expected to announce next week.

Postcomm is likely to suggest that alongside the increase, which would net Royal Mail ý170m a year, the company should face tougher performance targets and a compensation scheme for customers.

Yet Another Resignation At Maltapost

Yet another hiccup at Maltapost following the partial privatisation and takeover of management by New Zealand’s Transend, with the expatriate occupying the second most senior management post tendering his resignation.

Maltapost’s general manager (postal services), Pat Burke, has tendered his resignation. The Maltapost board of directors is believed to have accepted Mr Burke’s resignation. Maltapost said that Mr Burke relinquished his post for personal reasons.

DHL invests in local Russian market

DHL officials revealed their development plans for the Northwest Region of Russia at a press conference Thursday, as well as major plans for investment.

Alexander Danilov, country manager for DHL Russia, said that “By the end of 2002, we are planning to introduce a number of new client services, including Time Definite Delivery and Deutsche Post Global mail.”

Our investments in the development of our business in Russia have reached $50 million, and we are going to invest 10 percent of our profit each year,” said Axel Gietz, corporate-affairs director of DHL Worldwide Express.
