Royal Mail delays decision on size-based pricing

Royal Mail has confirmed this week that it will not be putting forward its business case on size-based pricing (SBP) to the Consignia Board until the end of the year, several months later than originally planned. The size-based pricing project team was due to make its recommendations to the board at its September meeting. The national carrier has said that it needs more time to work through the issues raised across its customer-base during the consultation process.

LDV lands £4M order at Business Express

LDV, the Birmingham-based specialist van manufacturer, has landed a major order worth pounds 4 million from national parcel company Business Express, it was confirmed yesterday.
Based at Drews Lane, it will supply Business Express with 200 3.5 tonne Convoy hi-loaders, boosting the parcel firm’s carrying capacity.
LDV has worked closely with Business Express for a number of years, formerly supplying the company with its Pilot range of vans.
However, a huge increase in Business Express’ third-party business has resulted in greater volumes of parcels being carried.
The company has a nationwide network of 33 depots, stretching from Lands End to the highlands of Scotland. It currently operates a 2,000-strong delivery fleet with 4,000 personnel, providing a home delivery service to its parent company, Littlewoods Retail Group.

The recently-elected rightwing French government plans to replace La Poste chairman Martin Vial before the expiration of his 5-year mandate in 2005, ostensibly because of his role in implementing the 35-hour workweek at the agency, according to the French weekly Le Journal du Dimanche.
