Lynx/USPS tie-up gets off to a great start

Lynx Express is sending 1,000 packages a week to US homes and businesses through its new partnership with the US Postal Service (USPS).
Chief executive David Burtenshaw said he believed Lynx could attract 5% of the Europe/US market, which he estimated at £1bn ( t1.6bn), inside two years.
The four to five-day US Priority Package service is claimed to provide a “closed loop” similar to the integrators, but at around 60% of their overnight rates, said Burtenshaw.

Panalpina ponders over IPO

Panalpina, the global forwarding and logistics group, is weighing a public offering of its stock sometime in the next several years.
Gerhard Fischer, the company’s chairman, revealed that possible public offering at the Basel, Switzerland-based company’s annual meeting last week.
Panalpina is owned by the Ernst Gohner Foundation, a Swiss social and cultural organization.
Martin Spohn, a spokesman for Panalpina, said that the public offering would be discussed in June at a shareholder meeting, at which time details such as how many shares to sell would be discussed.

Fedex flies into open skies row

Britain’s economy will suffer unless it removes restrictions on cargo flights by international airlines, Fred Smith, chairman and chief executive of FedEx, the world’s largest express air freight company, has warned. FedEx flies cargo into the UK but is prevented from picking up freight and carrying it to Europe by a 1978 air services treaty between Britain and America.
