Australia's Toll Holding CEO wants slice of China's logistics market

As Toll Holdings Ltd moves to bed down its 6 bln aud-plus acquisition of stevedoring company Patrick Corp Ltd and the 1.1 bln aud acquisition of Singapore-based logistics group, Sembcorp Logistics (SembLog), Australia’s largest transport logistics group is starting to focus on China.

The group is planning to capture a big slice of the logistics business as the flow of manufactured goods from China to Australia and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region continues to grow at an unabated pace.

DHL and Finland Post agree on business acquisition of Kelpo Kuljetus Fi Oy.

DHL and Finland Post have agreed on a business acquisition based on which DHL will buy out Finland Post’s 49 per cent of shares in Kelpo Kuljetus Fi Oy, the jointly owned domestic transport company, rendering Kelpokuljetus a fully-owned DHL subsidiary. This deal is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

According to the deal, Finland Post will acquire the regional transport business of Kelpokuljetus, comprising the transports from post centres to delivery post offices and customers, whereby staff responsible for regional transport services, the related equipment and customer contracts will transfer to Finland Post. These employees will join Finland Post under their current employment terms.

Pos Malaysia and Nationwide Express form strategic partnership

Pos Malaysia and the independent Malaysian parcels firm Nationwide Express have officially launched a strategic partnership. The initiative follows a recent cooperation agreement between the Malaysian postal authority and Singapore Post.

Under the agreement, customers will be able to buy stamps and philatelic items at over 100 Nationwide Express offices across the country. Pos Malaysia has a network of 650 post offices across the south-east Asia state.

GLS invests in international parcel service

General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam (GLS) is investing more than 100 million euros to strengthen its pan-European network in the current business year. The focus here is on the expansion of cross-border structures and services. Customers appreciate quality and service: already last year, the cross-border parcel volume rose by 26 per cent.

A total of 45 million euros are currently being invested in new constructions, the expansion or the modernisation of locations. Two international hubs will be built in France and another one in Hungary. Important investments will also be made in Denmark (hub expansions in Copenhagen and Kolding), Germany (six new depot constructions) and Poland (new headquarters construction with an adjacent depot).
