UPU to host international conference for the postal sector

As part of ongoing efforts to reinforce its position as a worldwide postal forum, the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union plans to bring together senior representatives of the postal sector to discuss the major challenges facing the industry, in a number of conferences to be held during 2006 and 2007. A one-day meeting exploring the development models that some of the world’s more modern and innovative Posts have adopted in response to growing competition and increased market liberalization will kick off the series in April. Participants will discuss such topics as postal sector investment, initial public offerings, public/private partnerships, and the alliances formed by certain Posts with a view to international expansion and strategic positioning for the future.

UPS expands 2nd day air options

UPS has accelerated the guaranteed commit time for the industry’s only 2nd Day Air A.M. delivery service to 10:30 a.m. from 12 p.m. and added a Saturday delivery option for UPS 2nd Day Air. The moves are part of an overall expansion of the UPS 2nd Day Air portfolio that also includes the addition of 9,300 ZIP codes to the 2nd Day Air A.M. delivery service area.

DHL to invest USD 9.5 Mln to expand operation centres in Mexico

The global carrier and package delivery company DHL, through its Mexican unit, DHL Mexico, will invest 100 mln Mexican pesos (UDD9.56 mln/7.92 mln euro) to expand and modernise its operation centres in Mexico, the vice president of operations of DHL Mexico, Luis Erana, said on February 1, 2006. The investment will be allocated for the five operation centres of DHL in Mexico, among them those in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. DHL has been operating in Mexico for the last 27 years, it has 400 sales points and has so far created 3,000 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs in the country.

Palletline profits are ‘strong and sustainable’

Palletline has reported a pre-tax profit of just under £500,000 for the six months ending December 31,2005. Its unaudited turnover was £4.2m.
Palletline’s managing director Glyn Jones says: ‘We are particularly pleased to see this return to strong and sustainable profits after a tough last year.
