French national mail operator La Poste said full-year net profit is expected to top 400 mln eur, up from 2004’s 374 mln. The group expects its operating margin to climb to 3.5 pct, up from 2.8 pct and above the previous guidance for 3.0 pct. La Poste expects sales to increase by 2.7 pct in 2006.

The union wants pay to increase by Pounds 80 a week from the basic level of Pounds 311, a rise of 25 per cent. The CWU will not ask for the Pounds 80 all at once but could make a claim for Pounds 40 next year followed by Pounds 40 the year after.
A spokesman for the CWU said: “We are Pounds 80 a week behind the national average wage. We need to have a fresh look at pay. The talks will be tied up with the future of Royal Mail.”

TNT announced today it is in the process of acquiring China’s leading freight and parcels transportation operator, Hoau Logistics Group, based in Heilongjiang. The deal is expected to be completed in the course of next year. Both companies have signed a Letter of Intent for this purpose. Through this acquisition, TNT will become the largest privately owned transportation network for freight and parcels in China. TNT already operates the largest distribution infrastructure in China with 140 operating facilities, covering 2.4 million square metres of warehouse space across 600 cities.
