TNT estimates growth in Asian healthcare business

TNT estimates its healthcare business will grow by double digits in Asia in 2009.

TNT estimates its healthcare business will grow by double digits in Asia in 2009.

This growth is attributed to its unique supply chain solutions which are key to improving the cash-to-cash cycle of companies in the current economic climate.

Damien Tan, managing director, TNT Singapore said, “In a downturn, cash is king and a short cash-to-cash cycle is critical in allowing healthcare businesses to obtain their capital as soon as possible. This calls for a very lean supply chain model that addresses the requirements of healthcare products, such as speed and temperature control – both of which we are ideally positioned to deliver. We are also in a strong position thanks to our life sciences focused regional distribution centre (RDC) in Singapore.”

A recent healthcare industry case study by TNT, involving one of the leading makers of blood glucose monitoring systems, showed delivery times were shortened by more than eight times. This was achieved through the centralisation of the company’s inventory in Singapore’s life sciences RDC.

Using cold chain management technology, the centre can store and transport a range of goods from medical devices, clinical diagnostics to pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The products were then distributed to 13 countries (in the Asia Pacific region) by a combination of TNT’s air and road network.

TNT is the only service provider that operates a B747 freighter between Europe and Singapore and Singapore and Shanghai. In addition, its 5000 km long Asia Road Network (ARN), a road network wholly managed by TNT stretches across 125 cities in five countries.

In view of the growth that lies ahead, TNT Asia also announced the appointment of Bhrigu Singh as the new regional industry director for healthcare, Asia Pacific. Onno Boots, regional managing director, TNT Asia said, “Bhrigu is the obvious choice to head this sector’s growth because of his vast experience and foresight. He will be instrumental in further helping TNT’s biggest global customers strategise their supply chain needs across continents and at the same time be able to implement growth strategies in TNT.”

With more than 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Bhrigu will be responsible for spearheading TNT’s growth in the healthcare sector particularly Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Bhrigu’s appointment reflects the strategic importance TNT places on expanding its operations in the healthcare industry.

TNT holds a market leading position of the industry in Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, India and Thailand.
