GMB Union: Evri couriers do a gruelling job
Thousands of Evri drivers have rejected a pay deal from bosses with a massive majority, while Evri says they consider the pay deal to be a “fair and competitive package”.
More than 6,000 couriers voted on the offer– which dates back to 2025 – with almost 97 % voting to turn it down.
GMB Union, which has had a recognition deal with Evri since 2019, recommended drivers reject the deal for the first time. GMB will meet with couriers to discuss next steps.
Nicola Savage, GMB National Officer said: “This overwhelming majority sends a clear, united, and decisive message. “Evri couriers do a gruelling job, delivering millions of packages across the UK in a timely fashion, often getting nothing but abuse for their hard work
“It’s no wonder they are demanding a decent pay rise. This pay offer is a year late and is well below what they feel they deserve.
“Today’s result is not the end of the journey—it is a powerful step forward. GMB will now meet with Evri members to discuss next steps, which could involve industrial action.”
Evri has today responded to the outcome of the recent GMB pay ballot for Evri Plus couriers.
“Community couriers are at the heart of Evri’s business, and the proposed pay package represents a multi‑million‑pound investment in the pay of GMB Evri Plus members.
The offer was developed following discussions with the GMB to improve pay for the vast majority of eligible couriers and includes rate protections, as well as additional bonuses of up to £875 for most couriers.
It also guarantees all participating GMB Evri Plus members a minimum equivalent hourly rate of £14.10 plus expenses – above both the National Living Wage and recent pay offers from many UK businesses, including supermarkets.
The proposed package also complements Evri’s broader benefits, including paid holiday, pension contributions, parental leave, and ongoing support with fuel and vehicle costs.
An Evri spokesperson said: “We consider this pay deal to be a fair and competitive package that reflects the vital role our community couriers play in our business. The offer was developed following discussions with the GMB and represents a significant multi-million pound investment from Evri in pay and benefits.
“We are disappointed that the ballot was delayed beyond our control and that GMB Evri Plus members were not given the opportunity to fully understand the details of the offer.
“Following constructive negotiations, we were surprised by the decision by GMB to recommend a ‘no’ vote. We are continuing to engage with the GMB to better understand their position and to move discussions forward constructively.”
The offer comes at a time when Evri continues to invest in growing and enhancing quality of service across its courier network. This includes the creation of thousands of new operational and community courier roles and multi‑million‑pound investments in technology to improve service and make deliveries easier and more efficient for couriers.
Evri remains committed to working collaboratively with the GMB and its couriers to secure a fair and sustainable outcome.”
