CTT Correios announces net profit of EUR 50.6m

Postal operator CTT Correios de Portugal announced a net profit of EUR 50.6m for 2009 – one of the highest totals achieved during the last 40 years. The results came despite a decrease of 5.5% in postal demand across the country.

The consolidated net profit decreased 4.3% (EUR -36.9m), and the operational costs decreased 3.4% (EUR -26.2m), which was insufficient to compensate for the profits’ decrease.

Committed to grow its targets, CTT said it strengthened its quality of service policy, digital businesses investment and internationalisation in 2009.

In terms of quality of service, CTT performance levels reached record highs, both domestically and internationally. The main digital services, ViaCTT (electronic mail box), and mailmanager, were also strongly developed

The internationalisation positioning of CTT was also strengthened with the creation of a CEP company, in a joint venture in Mozambique

The environmental sustainability policy carried out by CTT was rewarded with the first place in the ACGE Climate Responsibility Index among 55 Portuguese companies of the financial, energetic and transport sectors.
