DHL Express and airline partner Tasman Cargo Airlines (TCA) today launched a new Boeing 757 – offering Trans-Tasman customers increased capacity and ‘greener’ features.
Travelling between Sydney and Auckland five times per week, the DHL/TCA Boeing 757 has an additional capacity of 15 tonne per flight and flies one extra rotation more than the Boeing 727. It is also 25% more fuel efficient, significantly quieter and emits less greenhouse gases.
Gary Edstein, senior vice president, Oceania, DHL Express, said the additional capacity is very much needed by exporters and importers on both sides of the Tasman.
“We are the only express operator with a dedicated aircraft operating across the Tasman as the Trans-Tasman trade lane continues to grow,” said Edstein. “In 2009 alone, we experienced significant growth in Trans-Tasman shipments so increasing our capacity to offer faster services, and more often, to our customers is a key focus for us. We are delighted to partner with TCA to bring the new Boeing 757 into service.”
The Boeing 757 will continue DHL/TCA’s market advantage of arriving up to 11 hours before all other carriers into Sydney from Auckland. This offers a competitive benefit for New Zealand exporters as they are able to access earlier connection times to Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide.
In addition to boosting DHL and NZ Post’s significant investment in New Zealand’s domestic delivery networks, the new aircraft cements DHL’s position as the only fully integrated express and logistics company operating across the Tasman.
