In national emergency US medicine may be handled by USPS

The Postal Service is working on a plan to deliver antibiotics and other medicine to supplement local public health programs in the event of a catastrophe, officials said.

The agency said it is working with the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Health and Human Services on a delivery plan, which is in its early stages. Antibiotics from the national stockpile could be delivered to local agencies or to residential addresses in an emergency, officials said.

The post office said it was approached for the project because of its extensive delivery network.
