Exel to manage seafreight from Asia for HarperCollins Publishers in the UK

London, UK – 14 March 2004) Exel, the global leader in supply chain management, today announced that it has secured a substantial new three-year agreement with HarperCollins, who are one of the top three book publishers in the UK.

Exel will manage HarperCollins’ inbound supply chain from Asia and consolidate books from its ‘Preferred Printers’ in the Far East, to its hubs in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. It is expected that the Company will transport around 4,500 cubic metres of books by sea to the UK each year.

The implementation of this initiative has been gradual but successful and could lead to other similar developments in Europe. Paul McAdam, Regional Sales Manager at Exel says “Our proven track record and global network strength along with our ability to provide a cost-effective, highly visible and flexible solution were some of the key drivers in securing this contract.”

HarperCollins publish a wider range of books than any other UK publisher and this new partnership in logistics will be beneficial to both companies.
