US FedEx Express and Ground to provide total solution for Saks

Department store retailer Saks Incorporated has selected two operating companies of FedEx Corp. as exclusive providers of shipping services for all its divisions.

The agreement will be “multi-modal,” relying on services provided by FedEx Express for domestic, international and express freight deliveries and by FedEx Ground for ground and FedEx Home Delivery services.

“Our new relationship with FedEx Corp. is a logical extension of our goal to provide total satisfaction to our customers, while streamlining operations and controlling costs,” said Michael Rodgers, executive vice president of operations for Saks Incorporated. “The wide-ranging, diverse portfolio of services now offered by FedEx will be the foundation of our approach.”

Dan Dasinger, senior vice president of logistics for Saks, “We are very impressed with the FedEx approach to customer delivery services, and we are looking forward to a productive partnership.”

Saks Incorporated operates Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE), which consists of 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 53 Saks Off 5th stores, and saksfifthavenue.com. The company also operates Saks Department Store Group (SDSG), with 243 department stores under the names of Parisian, Proffitt’s, McRae’s, Younkers, Herberger’s, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner’s, Boston Store and 19 mall-based Libby Lu specialty stores. The company’s stores, operating in 39 states, offer a wide selection of fashion apparel, accessories, cosmetics, and decorative home items and feature assortments of unique designers and name brands.

The agreement with FedEx Express and FedEx Ground includes shipments from vendors to Saks’ distribution centers, from distribution centers to stores, and to individual customers ordering on the Web or directly from stores.

Among the FedEx solutions Saks will be using is FedEx Home Delivery(R), the innovative, business-to-consumer service for residential delivery in one to five days to virtually every home in the U.S. The service, provided by FedEx Ground, is backed by a money-back guarantee and offers delivery with signature verification, date-certain and evening delivery, and delivery-by-appointment.

“The core values that Saks upholds resonate strongly with the people of FedEx,” said David B. Edmonds, senior vice president of Worldwide Services for FedEx. “For Saks, they include doing things right, doing the right things, being responsive to the needs and goals of others, using teamwork to ensure success, and being accountable for delivering…period. With this agreement, we can leverage our values to help Saks fulfill theirs and achieve consistent winning results.”
