Japanese, Chinese Postal authorities fail to agree on planned tie-up

Japan Post and Chinese postal authorities failed to reach an accord Tuesday [8 June] on a planned business tie-up aimed at opening business offices in each other’s country.

The two sides had originally planned to sign the tie-up accord during the day’s meeting between Japan Post President Masaharu Ikuta and visiting senior Chinese postal officials. They will continue discussions Wednesday, but it is unclear if they can reach an agreement on the tie-up.

During the meeting, Japan Post is believed to have asked to open offices in Beijing and Shanghai, and proposed setting up numerical targets for expanding the mail volume delivered between the two countries.
