Kenya Postal Corporation to revamp service

The Kenya Postal Corporation will this month spend Sh136 million to purchase more than 80 vehicles to be used by its courier services division.

Post Master General Dan Ameyo said the move is aimed at revamping the Emergency Mail Services and Speed Post.

Ameyo said the parastatal was also working on a plan to win back its customers who had deserted it in favour of other private firms.

He said the corporation would soon introduce the transfer of money using electronic machines from one station to another.

Ameyo was addressing postmasters drawn from Western Province at the Kakamega Golf Hotel.

The meeting was also attended by the Corporation’s general manager in charge of Customer Service Care, Mr Ken Oluoch, and Mumias Sugar Company managing director Evans Kidero.

Ameyo also said the Corporation will take stern action on workers who tamper with parcels by sacking and prosecuting the culprits.

He warned the postmasters against delaying delivery of parcels adding that officers who do not perform their duties effectively would be sacked.

Ameyo also directed the postmasters to ensure that they generate profits in their stations to boost the financial base of the organisation.

He said the corporation would open up more post offices in areas where there is business potential and in the process create employment opportunities.
