Australia Post ensuring standard letters arrive on time

Australia Post has lifted its game in ensuring standard letters arrive on time, according to a report by auditor KPMG.

In its annual review of Australia Post’s performance, KPMG found 95.3 per cent of letters were delivered on time or early during the first three months of 2004.

The delivery rate exceeds Australia Post’s promise to deliver 94 per cent of the 20 million standard letters posted each day on time.

“The investment of AD700 million in the network renewal program over the last seven years is paying dividends in enabling us to efficiently process large volumes of mail and deliver at global best practice levels,” Australia Post’s general manager mail and networks Jim Marshall said.

Tasmania had the best record in letters being delivered on time, with 97.8 per cent, followed by Queensland (96.5 per cent) and the ACT (96.1 per cent).

South Australia and the Northern Territory had 95.6 per cent of letters arriving on time while Western Australia had 95.4 per cent, Victoria 95.1 per cent and NSW 94.7 per cent.
