Wey Group pioneers on-line shipping platform from NetDespatch
Express transport company Wey Group International has pioneered the use of a new web technology from NetDespatch that allows single-point Internet access to different transport services.
Traditionally different systems have been needed to book different types of services, since different types of information are required. With Velocity, sameday, overnight and international services are brought together and presented as a single system available anywhere, to anyone, over the web through a single login.
“Velocity allows us to extend customer site electronic booking to any customer, however small. Dedicated implants still have a role where volumes are very high, but most of our customers still use paper manifest notes and consignment pads and this is where this NetDespatch service is expected to really revolutionise our business.” says Peter Barnes, Director of the Wey Group.
The Wey Group is part of the APC overnight parcel network, and the system has been installed to live-connect customers of over 100 APC overnight parcel depots. The company views web development as crucially important for improving services in an increasingly competitive market. The biggest benefits to customers are seen to be the easy accessibility of the service and the provision of live tracking information.
“At a customer site, Velocity automatically checks address accuracy and can even produce the correct bar code label there and then, eliminating the routing errors that can so often hold up a delivery. Yes, it requires a keyboard, but once the information has been entered, that is it. There is no need to do anything else as everything thereafter is automated – culminating in an e-mailed proof of delivery” explains Peter Barnes.
Established 22 years ago, the Wey Group provides a one stop transport service from their headquarters in Weybridge, Surrey. Transporting urgent goods around the country and worldwide some of the company’s more unusual consignments include props, equipment and film for nearby Twickenham and Shepperton film studios.
