UAE Door-to-door postal service in six months
Door-to-door postal delivery service will get under way in the UAE within six months, once the logistical arrangements are in place and Emirate Post has successfully matched the market requirements with the operational costs of the service to suit the customers’ pockets. Speaking to “Khaleej Times”, Abdullah Al Daboor, Director General of Emirates Post, said the feasibility report on the door-to-door postal service is ready. “One thing is clear that the people in the UAE have expressed the need for door-to-door postal service which is some ways already exist in the form of home and office delivery of several government documents by Emirates Post and its subsidiary company Empost. Besides, there exists neighbourhood post box shelters as well as private post boxes in commercial and residential buildings in several emirates offering delivery of mail to their doorstep,” he said, clarifying that the product may not be completely new and has been existing in some form in the country. However, since the door-to-door service like it is available in Western countries, is being pressed for the by the government and the people, Al Daboos noted that they are working hard towards making this service available in the country. The issue of door-to-door mal delivery was raised during the National Consultative Council, NCC, meting in Abu Dhabi early this year, in a bid to improve the country’s postal service.
