Amtrak Express Parcels wins Virgin Wines contract
Amtrak Express Parcels has won a contract with Virgin Wines worth more than GBP1m to deliver boxes of wine to customers’ homes. The deal will double Amtrak’s business with the wine supplier, with which it has worked since 2002.
Virgin Wines, which also incorporates the Telegraph Wine Service, has seen year-on-year growth exceeding 30percent.
Amtrak said it had worked closely with the retailer to build an effective home delivery network. “We provide Virgin Wines with an unattended delivery service which allows goods to be left in a safe place. We also offer Saturday deliveries.” The parcels carrier has opened a new hi-tech wireless hub, specially designed to handle fragile items such as wine and flowers, near its main hub, located north of Birmingham.
The 3,600sq metre facility was the first completely wire-less hub of its kind in the market, Amtrak said. Employees use the latest HHP Dolphin 2D barcode scanners.
