Latvijas Pasts Postal co ready to represent Finland Post

Latvia’s state-owned postal service Latvijas Pasts plans to sign a cooperational agreement with the Finnish postal service Finland Post.

Gints Skodovs, CEO of Latvijas Pasts, said that the agreement is still being worked on, adding that they already cooperate in distributing catalogues.

The two companies plan to expand cooperation for logistics and delivery services in the Baltics and Poland, as well as Russia.

Skodovs said that Latvia still has to compete against the postal services of neighboring countries first, but the favorable geographic location – good railway connections and being located between Estonia and Lithuania – is an asset.

The head of the Latvian postal company said that it is also negotiating closer cooperation with other postal companies in the region and will not be signing any exclusive agreements with other companies.

Latvijas Pasts is also working on an idea for constructing a special deliveries warehouse for cooperation in transit postal operations.

Latvijas Pasts is one of the largest companies in latvia, employing 7,500 people, handling over 150,000 letters and packages, as well as 170,000 newspapers and magazines daily.

In 2003 Latvijas pasts posted a turnover of 24.5 million lats (EUR 37 mln)with a surplus of 2.37 million lats.
