UK mission in Rwanda introduces visa courier service

In response to customer concerns over the requirements for UK visa applications in Rwanda to travel to Uganda to submit their applications, the British Embassy in Kigali has introduced a UK visa courier service in Rwanda that will facilitate Rwandans wishing to travel to the UK have the visa applications processed without having to travel to Uganda.

Applicants will also have an electronic impression of fingerprints taken at the British Embassy so that a record of them can be attached to the visa application. This is required by the United Kingdom law in support of the worldwide programme to combat abuse of the UK immigration and asylum systems, as Stephen Powell, the entry clearance manager at the British Embassy in Kampala, explains:

[Powell] It will be far simpler for Rwandan people here to go to VHS [Visa Handling Services] deposit all their papers, pay a fee, smaller fee that will cost you to travel to Kampala, stay in Kampala, wait around then come again. [Passage omitted]
