Dutch OM demands 59,000 Euro fine from TNT Logistics

Dutch Public Prosecutor (OM) demanded a fine of some 59,000 euro ($76,600) to be imposed on TNT Logistics, the express and logistics arm of the Dutch postal, express and logistics company TPG NV, for customs regulations infringements, it was reported on November 15, 2004.

According to an OM official, TNT Logistics have made incomplete customs reports and it has performed shipments without the necessary customs clearance. Dutch customs officers registered a total of 109 infringements of TNT Logistics in a 14-months period.

The national tax authority, the Belastingdienst, has imposed a fine of 453 euro ($588) for each single infringement of the company.

The total fine of TNT Logistics includes also an additional fine of 20 pct on that sum, due to suspension of payment, Belastingdienst said.

TNT Logistics opposed the OM’s decision and denied any wrongdoing. The company said it has always stood by the agreements set up with the Dutch customs authorities.
