GLS acquires further locations in Italy

Vicenza, Schio, Conegliano and Treviso: GLS acquired another four parcel businesses in Italy – this time from the franchise partner De Vicari. Just shortly before, GLS purchased the parcel businesses of the franchise partner Tavassi. These recent transactions are in line with GLS’ strategy of evolutionarily expanding and strengthening its own operations in Italy’s key regions.
“Including the most recent transaction, GLS’ own locations contribute 15 percent to GLS Italy’s total revenue”, explains Rico Back, CEO of General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam. “In total, GLS has now direct access to customers at 13 locations in Italy. This proximity to the market provides a better understanding of the regional mentality and needs. It allows us to react even more flexibly to our customers’ requirements.”
Going live in October 2004The contracts were signed on September 10th of this year and the operative work commenced on October 1st. Following the acquisition of the businesses of the franchise partner Tavassi in the Tuscany region, De Vicari is now the second franchise acquisition to take place within a few weeks. Two further transactions preceded these back in 2003. GLS Enterprise was established to manage these newly acquired businesses. Alessandro De Vicari will be responsible for the new locations obtained as part of the most recent transaction.
Strong presence in the Veneto and Tuscany regionsWith Vicenza, Schio, Conegliano and Treviso, another four depots in Veneto now belong to GLS’ own network: a total of 67 employees and 113 delivery vehicles are working here to fulfil the needs of 5,700 medium-sized companies.
In the area of Tuscany, GLS is present with three depots: Florence, Empoli and Prato, where a combined total of 33 employees and 60 trucks serve 3,000 medium-sized customers.
