Belgian Post returns to 36 Mln Euro profit in 2004

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste returned to profit posting 36 mln euro ($46.9 mln) in 2004, compared to a 64 mln euro ($83.3 mln) loss for 2003, it was reported on January 24, 2005.

The company’s operating profit increased to 34 mln euro ($44.3 mln) in the same period.

It laid off some 2,000 employees through a natural attrition programme in 2003 and 2004.

Currently, the company has 37,920 full-time employees.

[Editor’s note: De Post/La Poste (www.post.be ) turnover increased to 1.9 bln euro ($2.47 bln) in 2003 from 1.8 mln euro ($2.34 mln) in 2002.

De Post/La Poste operates 1,352 post offices in Belgium.]
