Postal service providers in Hungary

1. How many licences have been awarded in Hungary? We believe there are currently 38.

a) The Magyar Posta is the designated USP by the Postal Act.

b) According to the Postal Act, licence is only necessary for services classified as universal services and only for service providers other than the Magyar Posta (USP). Up till now no one has applied to licence.

c) According to the Postal Act, the intention to commence the provision of postal services that are not universal services shall be notified to the Communications Authority for registration prior to commencement. Up till now the following service providers are registered:

– postal services (64.11.1) – by the Commission regulation (EC) No 204/2002 of 19 December 2001 amending Council
Regulation (EEC) no 3696/93 on the statistical classification of products by activity (CPA) in the European Economic Community):

Magyar Posta;

– Courier services other than national post services (64.12.1):

65 service provider is registered (whose updated data are available on our website (www.nhh.hu Enter/ Official
announcements/ Service providers/ Telecommunication services and interface reports/ Telecommunication services/ Query by types of service),

+ 2 service providers (whose notification is already accepted, but publication of their data on our website is in preparation).

2. How many of these are allowed to operate in the Reserved Area? We understand that this is only Magyar Posta.

Yes, this is true. Only Magyar Posta is allowed to operate in the reserved area. The extent of the reserved area is defined by the Act CI of 2003 on the Post (available on the http://en.ihm.gov.hu/regulations website).
