Swiss Post places 258 Mln Euro orders for letter sorting machines

Swiss Post placed 400 mln Swiss francs ($340.8 mln/257.7 mln euro) orders with four companies for sorting machines and containers on March 8, 2005.

Swiss Post will use the said equipment in the three new sorting centres and six subcentres, which it will start operating between 2006 and 2008 under the Reengineering Mailprocessing (REMA) project. Swiss Post will invest over 1.0 bln francs ($852 mln/644 mln euro) in REMA by 2009.

Swiss Post placed a 310 mln francs ($264.1 mln/199.7 mln euro) order with Siemens Schweiz AG for sorting machines for standard letters, storage racks and handling equipment for letter containers.

Swiss Post also ordered 40 mln francs ($34.1 mln/25.8 mln euro) handling equipment for storage containers from Swiss Bern-based Gilgen AG.

Japanese NEC Corporation won a 27 mln francs ($23 mln/17.4 mln euro) order for sorting machines for large-size letters.

Swiss Post placed an 11 mln francs ($9.4 mln/7.1 mln euro) order with Swiss Aargau-based Georg Utz AG for containers for sorting and transport of letters.
