Amtrak doubles up

Amtrak Express Parcels has started a two-man home delivery service for retailers, specialising in items such as plasma and LCD TVs, and other electrical goods.
Amtrak is the first express parcel carrier to offer the capability, eliminating the need for dedicated in-house or contractor fleets. Dual sourcing may be uneconomic, Amtrak says.
The weight band for double-manning is between 35kg and 75kg. Service options include next day or evening, and a special service for fragile items that includes a “shock watch” to ensure careful handling.
“It was therefore a natural progression to expand our services so that our customers can get Amtrak to deliver everything,” says sales director Jerry kane.
