Ukrposhta to “significantly reduce delivery times” with new investment

Ukrposhta has signed a contract for a new sorting and logistics centre just outside Kyiv.

The agreement on the commencement of construction was signed on September 7 by Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smilyansky, Director of Tetra Invest Svitlana Tsicun with the participation of Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, members of the Supervisory Board of Ukrposhta, representatives of the EBRD.

Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smilyansky commented: “The centre, which will be placed on a land plot of 9.2 hectares, will be able to handle up to 40,000 parcels and small shipments per hour, as well as up to 45,000 leaflets, which will significantly reduce delivery times and improve the quality of services. Thus, the processing time of Ukrposhta-Express shipments will be reduced from 20 hours to 3.

“Today we have taken a big step towards the implementation of Ukrposhta’s new logistics strategy. In addition to the fact that it is the first in 42 years in Ukrposhta, kyiv sorting center is special in that ukrposhta sorting center and warehouses of retailers and key marketplaces will be concentrated on one territory of the future industrial park.

“The advantages of such placement will be saving time and money for large online stores. The goods quickly arrive from the store warehouse to the sorting center. This will unload their warehouses and allow you to increase the volume of goods. And the location of the logistics and sorting center outside Kyiv, along with the largest highways and boryspil airport, will solve 3 tasks at once: the time for sorting domestic and international shipments will be reduced, the number of trucks in the center of Kyiv will decrease and the quality of delivery will improve due to the lack of need to overcome urban congestion.”

“The first automated sorting center of Ukrposhta of the new model will become a driver of the development of an industrial park near Kyiv. The 60-hectare industrial park will potentially unite about a dozen Ukrainian and international partner companies.

“The industrial park is a landmark project for us, and for Ukraine as a whole. Similar logistics structures operate only in two countries – the United States and China. The concept involves the involvement of a 4PL provider, which will allow to bring the logistics of companies to a fundamentally better level.

The project also provides additional infrastructure that allows to ensure the functioning of the park 24/7.

Ukrposhta’s logistics center will become an anchor for the development of an innovative industrial park, which will include customer warehouses and customs warehouses, an office center, parking lots and a recreational area,” commented Svitlana Tsicun, CEO of Tetra Invest LLC.

Completion of all works is planned by the end of 2023.

Within the framework of the modernization strategy, Ukrposhta raised about EUR 100 million for the construction of automated sorting hubs, regional depots and the purchase of cars for mobile branches. The project of modernization of the logistics network involves the construction of 7 automated sorting centers and the restructuring of the logistics network for 55-60 regional depots.

All new buildings will be built using modern energy-saving technologies and the introduction of environmentally friendly environmental methods and certified according to international BREEAM standards.
