Hurricane Commerce to support e-commerce customers in China

Hurricane Commerce has been appointed by Yanwen Express as its global cross-border data partner.

Yanwen, one of China’s leading logistics providers, has integrated Hurricane’s data enhancement solution, Zephyr, to ensure its shipments have complete and accurate data including products descriptions, HS6 codes and import and export codes.

Yanwen employs over 4,000 people and hands over almost 3 million parcels and packets every day to its network of carriers.

The decision to appoint Hurricane Commerce will enable Yanwen to meet the requirements of a wave of new regulations affecting cross-border eCommerce.

In July, the EU abolished the exemption from VAT on low value goods and introduced the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) which has a mandatory requirement for complete and valid data.

Chinese merchants and their logistics partners are also having to meet a higher quality threshold for data provision on shipments into the United States as a result of the enforcement of the US STOP Act.

Zephyr is Hurricane’s AI-driven, real-time data enhancement solution with the ability to process over 700 million requests per day with an average response time of 100 milliseconds.

Martyn Noble, CEO of Hurricane Commerce, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Yanwen Express to provide them with our Zephyr data enhancement service.

“Yanwen is one of the best known and fastest growing 3PLs in China which recognises the importance of having data competency to support the requirements of existing and future customers.

“The regulatory landscape governing cross-border eCommerce has changed dramatically in 2021 and, as a consequence, customs authorities are now stopping and holding thousands of shipments around the world.”

A spokesperson for Yanwen Express said: “Hurricane’s world-leading cross-border data technology enables us to meet the new regulatory requirements and ensure that our customers’ parcels continue to move seamlessly to consumers wherever they are in the world.”

Hurricane is partnering with EI Holdings, a UK-China business organisation, in helping Chinese companies involved in international eCommerce. ELI is led by its Chairman James Wang.
