Asendia: We are excited to lead the way in our industry
Asendia, the joint venture between La Poste and Swiss Post, has announced 100% carbon neutrality as of 2022.
Asendia has focused on sustainability since its foundation in 2012 and has spent the past 3 years extending its sustainability strategy in response to growing concerns about the environmental impact of supply chain operations. Asendia is leading the way proving how the sector can neutralise its environmental footprint.
In 2020, Asendia offset emissions on international transport within Europe and from Europe to other continents. The total offset was 50,990 tCO2e which supported an EcoAct verified wind farm project in India. In 2021, Asendia announced that it would now offset emissions on international transport worldwide.
As of 2022, not only will Asendia offset all international transport emissions, but it will also include first mile collection, last mile delivery, returns, building emissions, machinery, and business travel.
Offsetting from 2021 and 2022 will support another EcoAct verified wind farm project, this time in China where coal still covers nearly 70% of the country’s energy needs.
Asendia has also made a commitment to sustainability on their board, with its Chief HR Officer Barbara Schielke adding Corporate Social Responsibility to her position, a move she feels extremely passionate about.
Barbara Schielke says about Asendia’s announcement: “Our world is becoming more connected than ever, and international delivery is a big part of that connection. As one of the largest global logistic providers, we at Asendia know that protecting our planet comes first. From January 2022, we are taking a big step forward by off-setting 100% of all carbon emissions. We are excited to lead the way in our industry and will continue to find sustainable solutions for our clients in the future.”
Commenting on the creation of a Corporate Social Responsibility Officer role, Marc Pontet CEO at Asendia says, “Our sustainable commitment continues in the footsteps of our founding companies – La Poste and Swiss Post. Asendia is proudly following our heritage with sustainability as our core focus. Creating a dedicated role within the board was a natural step to our ongoing commitment.”
